Author: Caigsy
Subject: London to Paris May 2010
Posted: 10 Mar 2010 at 6:48pm

You are quite right in the not too taxing stakes. However, try and find the right route up the many hills to CP. Heading up Gypsy Hill is a non starter, you could try Central Hill, but just when you think the climb is over a small dip prepares the legs for the secondary small push. Also the road surface is shot to bits because of the snow and is in a general state most of the time. South Croxted Road leading on to Dulwich Wood Park and College Road to Crystal Palace Parade is the more direct approach, pretty easy going but long and a good bit of out of the saddle stuff to finish off. A gentle pedal up College Road is also good, but keep on it, otherwise a tricky negotiation of a busy roundabout awaits. The gentlest way is up South Croxted RD, then up Dulwich Wood Avenue, swing left and then hang a right onto Farquhar AV, and follow the road up to CP. This is by far the easiest on the old legs if you don't want to risk anything the day before the off.

Check it out on the link below

Training this end has hit a rock this week as a chest infection has decided to lumber itself on to me, thanks to one of my boys. Back out tomorrow and the rest of the week for the daily commute, hopefully a ride on Sunday, but it is Mother's Day, then a couple of days later off to Venezuela for a week rum tasting.
The Crystal Palace

Sorry about your bike you could probably claim on your house insurance for replacement.
A friend suggested putting the heat pads between overboots and trainers so trainers dont get so tight.
Yes getting excited now, looking forward to it, my friend and I dont intend breaking any London to Paris records but want to do it in a reasonable way so keep on training!!

You can try the heat pads - you can buy re-usable ones or disposable ones from Boots and Superdrug!

They are better than cold feet - although make your trainers a bit tight!

Hope that helps

I had my bike stolen last week and so had a nightmare week trying to get a new one in time for the cycle ride and still get in the training. So gutted that someone stole whilst I was at work...Onwards and upwards though - getting very nervous and excited!

Sam xx

I signed up to this ride SO late! I managed to raise the 80% though. I noticed someone was having trouble with fundraising, the way i did it was I got my local supermarket to let me sell raffle tickets over two days for an easter hamper! I made £350! Its simple, the hamper only cost £20.
I'm a bit bummed as i'm still struggling to get hold of a decent road bike, I'm going begging today. fingers crossed!
