Petra Charity Trek
5th - 9th October 2016
Sponsorship level: £2,150
No journey to Jordan would be complete without a visit to the stunning Petra – now a UNESCO World Heritage Site! Accessible through a narrow canyon, the site remained unknown to the Western world until the early 19th Century and is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
After soaking up the history of Petra, our route will take us out into the desert, surrounded by mountains, before finishing at the peaceful Dead Sea. This trek highlights the diversity of Jordan and will satisfy any trekker with an adventurous streak!
The following gives you a taste of the challenge ahead but please contact our Overseas Team on 020 7424 5511 for more details!
Day 1: UK - Amman - Petra
Depart the UK for Amman and transfer through the mountainous desert landscape to our hotel in Petra for the night.
Day 2: Petra - Little Petra
Today we visit the magical and fascinating UNESCO World Heritage Site of Petra, a city carved into the mountains and subsequently lost for hundreds of years. Our informative guide will take us through the site from the Treasury through to the Monastery before we continue on to our Bedouin camp for the night. Trekking time approx 4-6 hours
Day 3: Little Petra - Wadi Gnai - Wadi Bageh
After a hearty breakfast we ready ourselves for the day of trekking ahead. Today we cross some truly magnificent landscapes as our journey takes us through Little Petra, a Byzantine caravan station, and along the creeks and crevasses of the Wadi Gnai. Our campsite tonight is at Wadi Bageh where we’ll be free to wonder at the Milky Way above us, unobstructed by light pollution. Trekking time approx 6-8 hours
Day 4: Wadi Bageh - Ghbour Whedat - Shkaret Msaed - Dead Sea
Today we embard on our final day trekking! The landscape is flatter today crossing local farms and Bedouin sites; tourists are rarely seen here and trekkers are welcomed by the locals. After lunch we follow the flat desert plains towards our transport waiting to take us to our hotel on the Dead Sea, 1388ft below sea level! Here we can take advantage of the medicinal properties of the Dead Sea and float in this incredible expanse of water, so heavily laden with salt it’s impossible to sink! Tonight we’ll enjoy a celebration dinner to toast our achievements. Trekking time approx 3-5 hours.
Day 5: Dead Sea - Amman - UK
This morning we say a final farewell to the Desert and the Dead Sea and transfer back to Amman for our flight home.
Due to the nature of the challenge, this complex itinerary is subject to change.
